Busy vs Productive, What I actually do

There’s a difference between being busy and being productive.

I have had days where I worked all day (more than 9-12 hours)…. and running around like chicken with it’s head cut off…

but at the end of the day...

I did not have much to show for the effort.

Sometime we get busy with unimportant stuff which are not really helping in reaching your goals… Like deleting emails from your inbox…YAY! or deleting unused Apps on the Phone… Yup! I do that too sometimes. Or doing research on a project…

Very busy day.

But… not very productive at all. Because none of these activities moved the needle, so to speak

So what do you do if you really want to be productive?

I’ll tell you what works for me…

I pick the best time, I am the most focused. No, it is not “early bird gets the worm story”

5 am club is NOT me… I am at my best from 9am to  1.30pm.

So I can squeeze the real focused deep work from 9 to 12.

Now that I know that, I can plan my day.

so I dive deep on the 2-3 things that I know will move the needle. I know those beforehand, because I've written them on a little piece of paper that I have in front of me.

At about 12 noon I'm done with the important stuff… and I can now focus on whatever else I feel like. Or nothing at all.

This way, I get way more done… and because I've not only scheduled time for the important things but also for the mundane, very little falls through the cracks.

Now don’t overcommit. Don’t add too much work in that focused zone… not at the beginning at least.

For now… have a productive… not a busy day!
